Promotion of Competition: New "Game Rules"

Organizers:

Committee on Regulation of Natural Monopolies and Protection of Competition under the Ministry of National Economy of the Republic of Kazakhstan 

Relevance:

Plan of the Nation on realization of the five institutional reforms “One Hundred Concrete Steps” of N.A. Nazarbayev, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, envisages changing g of the concept of antimonopoly service work and its alignment with the OECD standards (53rd step). 

Goals:

The main task of this session - to show the role of antimonopoly regulation and protection of competition in the development of modern economic policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the prospects for its further development. 

Key issues:

 

Within the framework of realization of the 53rd step, work on bringing the competition law of the Republic of Kazakhstan in accordance with international best practices and international standards is conducted.
In 2015, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development conducted peer review of Competition Law and Policy in Kazakhstan and its results were reviewed on 29-30 October 2015 at the meeting of the OECD Global Forum on Competition.
Also, this year marks 25 years of antimonopoly regulation in the Republic of Kazakhstan, which is certainly a significant event.
The event is planned on May 25, the main day of the Astana Economic Forum.
The agenda of the session includes key speeches of B. Sagintayev, First Deputy Prime Minister, F. Jenny, Chairman of the OECD Competition Committee and representatives of the leading competition authorities around the world. The session participants will get acquainted with the latest changes in the competition law of the Republic of Kazakhstan in order to bring it in accordance with the OECD standards and the international best practices.
